Dawn's Digression.

Employees upstairs have begun to run amuck. Word is out on the floor there will be a layoff on Monday. I don't know this to be true, and from the look on the HR Manager's face, she doesn't either. However, I have been told there will be announcements made next week. The last announcements were not good news.

Our internet has been running slow all day due to employees searching the net for news. We're on CNN.com, Yahoo! news, NBC, FOX, etc. One of our stocks is down to less than $4 a share. $3.63 last I saw. Our other stock is down, too. It seems we misjudged the amount of new customers to be expected over the summer. Previously the number was to be 400,000, now 300,000. Our wireless additions are now said to be 10-15% less than the 3 million projected.

Many of the employees here are a little nervous. I'm one of them. I was just up on the 4th floor delivering some letters, and I could not get into ANY doors. My security badge was deactivated! I have been here almost three years and NEVER had an issue with my security badge. I had a little freak out session of my own. When I talked to the lady at the security desk she called it in for me and said that security has a long list of people that have been blocked out for apparently no reason.

I over-reacted for a few minutes. I'm trying not to over-react now. It is just completely unnerving how volatile the economy is right now. It seems almost every day another company is having lay-offs. Last week it was IBM. KERA is laying off 25% of its workforce. It scares me to think of not having a job and having to compete with more experienced job seekers.
