House Stuff
In this post, I'd like to complain about how much work our house needs.
It's awful. We need new flooring. We haven't painted since we moved in 2 years ago. We have paneling in our living room, vegetable wall paper in the kitchen. We need a new fence.
So, Michele wants to paint. We bought paint. Correction: Michele wants to pay someone to paint. Wonderful! However, I am broke since I bought the new car(Yay! for the new car!). She wants new flooring. And she wants this pretty much NOW. Well, me too, but ...Um. Who's gonna pay for this? One painter wants $550 for 3 bedrooms and the hallway, the other wants $1500. Michele wants hardwood flooring through the whole house. I'm wondering if I can convince her to do carpet in the back of the house. I'm not all that thrilled with tile or wood in the bedrooms. I like carpet under my feet. I was at The Depot today, and saw that ceramic tile is $3.50 for installation per square foot. We have 1674sq ft. If only I were my mother's daughter and could do this myself. I am not at all handy. Nor do I enjoy labor. (sad and lazy, I know) Me trying to lay down flooring is just a bad, bad idea. Rachel and Suzy are putting in flooring in their house. I'm thinking I should wait and see how that turns out. I bet Rachel would install it for us cheaper. Oh, wait. I suppose that would be true if she weren't have knee surgery on both knees next week. (She has degenerative arthritis at 29.)
So, I decided in honor of Earth Day next Sunday, it would be nice to plant some flowers in the front yard. Excellent. So then I start looking around the yard and notice the fence is awful. cha-ching. *sigh* So, I went back to the front yard. And there I noticed I hate two of our bushes that are completely overgrown and asymmetrical. Asymmetry drives me nuts. So, now I want to pull out these 2 bushes and plant boxwoods. Michele reminds me we have a sprinkler system, and we don't know where the pipes are underneath the dirt.
What happened to my $5 planting flowers project?See what I mean about my mind? Oy.
So, anyway. I don't know what to do about the house. There is a limited amount of cash flow, and honestly, we're really hoping a limited amount of time that I will be working. I'll have to quit working in a year or so in order to complete my student teaching hours (12 weeks with no pay). It would be great if I could quit before then to just finish up the degree. So, here I battle between living in a pit while finishing education, or living in a nicer place while being broke and going to school and working FT. Either way I'm broke, I suppose. I dunno.
I think my Diet Coke is kicking in. I think I'll try to study again.
