She Loved Her Nutra-Puffs

Martha loved her Nutra Puffs. She sure did. Every morning when Michele or I would open the cage she would run down to get her Nutra Puff.

Thursday night, Rachel went to give Martha her Nutra-Puff and she didn't come running. She didn't come at all. Our sweet little mouse died last Thursday night after what I can only assume was an extremely vigorous run on her exercise wheel. Rach said she was just a-runnin'. An hour later, hers was dead. Rachel buried her in the backyard and went looking for a replacement. I jokingly told Rachel before I left that if something happened, to just go out and buy one that looked just like it and not tell me. Can you believe she did? But she didn't find one just like our Martha. And we'd have known anyway, because Martha was so sweet. I know it sounds silly to say a mouse is sweet. But she was. Poor Martha. And now poor Muriel. We haven't decided whether or not to buy Muriel a new friend. It's a lonely life for a mouse to be in that cage all alone. But do we want to start the vicious cycle of always buying a new mouse to replace the dead one? I don't know.
