I realized after blogging yesterday, that I never explained why we've decided on THOM. I know the last thing I said before we made an offer was that I wouldn't get the house.
Michele walked around and spoke to some of the neighbors to ask them if they have problems with mosquitoes. They said no. Also, we talked to some different people and were able to find out some things we can do to lessen the mosquito population. There is a type of bird...don't quote me on this, but I believe we were told Purple Martin. They have those bird houses that are really high with little holes. A~, they eat mosquitoes. So, we can put one of those up, and they are supposed to help considerably. We also found out there is some orange colored stuff you can sprinkle on the lawn that keeps them away. So there you have it.
We still haven't received our counter-offer. I don't know what the hell is taking so long. I'm just about to give up. There's no way this is going to work out. But just in case it does, let me tell you a bit about the house.
It's a 3/2 brick ranch on a cul-de-sac creek lot. The walk-up is gorgeous. As long as you don't look at some of the neighbor's houses. *cringe* The house is small - only 1591 square foot. But the way it is laid out makes it look much larger than that. The entry and kitchen have Italian brick, which is just fabulous. They say the living room has the same brick under the carpet, it just isn't sealed yet. A~, when you walk in, you walk directly into the living area (which I usually abhor...I prefer an entry area) The kitchen is to the right, the hallway to the bedrooms to the left. The living room is sunken. The back porch has been enclosed into a sunroom. The three bedrooms are decent sized. Not too small. We kind of wanted split bedrooms, but I'm not sure it is necessary quite yet. We're probably looking at staying there for about 10 years, and the kids will still be really young, so we'd probably like to keep them somewhat close. Ya know? The yard is huge.
If I were to look at the features of this house on paper, I'd say no way. It doesn't have 1/2 of the things we are looking for in a house. But it felt like home, and nothing can compete with that. We wanted a 4 bedroom with wood floors, split bedrooms, and an entry area. *shakes head* Who knows, this may fall through anyway. *sigh*
