Goin' back to Cali, Cali, Cali. I'm going back to Cali.... I don't think so.
I had the best time in California! I saw 16 of our facilities in two days. I was exhausted by the time I got to the hotel and was asleep no later than 10 all 3 nights. Beth was an awesome conversationalist and the weather was PERFECT.
On Wednesday, I saw an MRI being performed and after the lady left, the tech showed us her scan and pointed out the areas he was looking at. She has MS and he was looking at the areas where the myelin was damaged. It was good news -- remission. Then we drove to a couple of other facilities and ended the day at our facility in downtown San Francisco. Beth had never seen the "Painted Ladies" at Alamo Park (you may recognize them as the houses at the beginning of Full House), so we stopped by there since it was downtown. We stopped at Half Moon Bay and watched the sun set on the ocean. (There were HUGE waves...they showed people boarding up houses, etc on the news.) We had dinner at a oceanside restaurant that used to be a speakeasy and brothel. There is a huge floodlight on the restaurant so you can watch waves roll in at night. Then we went back to the hotel and crashed.
Thursday, we visited a bunch of facilities, I finally got to see our San Jose office, and we had dinner with the HR Coordinator I deal with all the time. I was really looking forward to seeing her again because we had only met once, but seem to have a lot in common.
Friday, I hung out at one of our nicer facilities and watched people work. This was great because I talk to candidates all the time, but up until now, have had no real idea what it was like in the imaging centers. I wandered around and watched people until they felt the need to talk to me. I watched another MRI (this one with contrast), and watched a CT scan. The tech doing the CT was nice enough to show me the different organs we were looking at and talk me through what she was doing. I also lurked around a Ultrasound Tech. She was reading films, so I didn't bug her too much. I think we were looking at a bladder or something. Then I watched the front desk and file room people do their stuff.
Fun! It seems to me like being a tech is a great occupation. I highly suggest! ;)
