A Little About My Vacation

I had finished all my packing and things I needed to do before being ready to go to the airport. I was ready. Michele was not. So she said, "Why don't you take a nap, and I'll wake you up in 20 minutes." I did. She did not. Because she fell asleep, too. We woke up at 4:20. "What time do we need to leave?" she asked. "4:00" We didn't get out of the house until 5, and we missed the flight. On top of that, the poopy little man at the counter said both of our suitcases were too heavy. I had to take a bunch of stuff out of my suitcase and put it in my carry on. My very heavy carry on. Luckily, they got us on the next flight, which left only 2 hours later. Thank goodness. We tried not to freak out too much. We took our Xanax and slept all the way to Boston.

The car rental place was full of morons. We had called ahead to let them know that we would be coming in on a later flight. When we got there, they didn't have our car, and they kept trying to bump us up to more expensive cars. That would have been okay if they were doing it for free. But no, they wanted us to pay for it. So, we ended up waiting 30 minutes for our car. Keep in mind that we had one hour of sleep the night before, and then had to travel. We were cranky.

We went to Ruby's and took a shower. Then we went to get our manicures. That pedicure was FUN. I had never had one before. They put you in this chair that vibrates. It rocks. Michele says we're doing it again before the reception. That's fine, as long as she is paying for it. Ruby was sweet enough to bring home pizza with her. Thank God. We were hungry and did NOT want to go out.

Friday we got up and drove to VT. We stopped at the Porter Music Box Museum. I didn't actually go through the museum, but I did pick up a cute little music box that plays "Tara's Theme". Then we started driving towards the Burlington airport. I decided maybe I should check my phone for messages. My mom had called and said that her first plane had technical difficulties, so she had to switch planes, and as a result, had missed her plane into Burlington, and would probably not be in until 11:45pm. If she could even make it in that night. So now, I'm tired and hungry. I still haven't been to the inn, and my mother won't be in for hours.

Mom did make it in that night. Michele and I had made dinner reservations at the inn, but had to cancel because Mom's flight came in right in the middle of dinner. We ended up eating at Friendly's, which is a burger joint up there. We were pissed as weasels in a blender because we had been anticipating a hamburger we had at Friendly's last year that was exquisite. They no longer make it. So now we hate Friendly's.

You know, I don't think I took any pictures of our room at the inn. I have it on video, but that doesn't do any good, does it? Our room was much smaller than we thought it would be. The shower was a nightmare to move around in. This was our room, though. That is a hot tub outside on the back porch. That stove was really cool because it worked on a thermostat. It automatically came on when the room got too cool. Oh! I know what I forgot to mention! The phone in our room didn't work. Which means we had to use our cell phones. Which were roaming. When they were actually getting a signal, that is. And, since we were in the hideaway, we had to walk to the main building every time we had something to say to Mom, Ruby, or Patti & Helen. Quite the pain.

Maybe I'll tell you about Saturday this afternoon.

I took a half day on Monday. Michele was off for the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday because she works for a Canadian company. She gets more holidays than I do. You know, I don't even get Good Friday! A~, I got home around noon. We went to Bennigan's so I could get a Monte Cristo and then we went to the movies. We saw Under the Tuscan Sun. LONG. Okay, it was only 2 hours long, but still it was too long. I had really high hopes for the film, and although it was good, it wasn't all that. Then we watched Secondhand Lions. I really enjoyed this film. I laughed. I cried. I hurled. (Okay, I didn't hurl. But when I say, "I laughed. I cried." I have to throw in "I hurled." or I feel like I am not paying the necessary tribute to Wayne's World.) THEN we saw School of Rock. Surprisingly enough, it didn't suck. It was even somewhat entertaining. Matter of fact, I would recommend that before I would recommend Under the Tuscan Sun. You should see Secondhand Lions, though. It was good.
